AFS EOR kamp

Hello everybody! 

Last week, I was at the end of stay camp for all the foreign exchange students in Flanders this year. 

This means my first year as a volunteer is ending. I must say I could not be more proud of how the students have evolved. They came here as teenagers and now they are independent adults.

The summer is getting closer, this means that the departure date for future exchange students is getting closer too, and it is time to put the final touches on their preparation.

Last week, I met the people who will leave in August to go on exchange in Finland with three other volunteers (who, of course, also went there). The other volunteers and I had a whole afternoon to make sure the students had a correct vision of what they could expect during their year abroad and that they knew how to handle the Finnish culture.

It was a wonderful afternoon, it brought back so many awesome memories! I burst out laughing a few times.

The Moomins on the Riviera

Have you heard?

The moomins now also have a movie! It's called "The Moomins on the Riviera".

In the movie, the moomin family takes a trip to the French Riviera where they discover the luxurious life of the celebrities you read about in magazines, yet in the end, they decide to go back to their simple lives.

The movie was created using a unique hand-drawn technique, and a reduced color scale to keep the original feel of black-and-white comic strips by Tove and Lars Jansson. It addresses themes such as finding joy in the small things in life, family, and optimism, and also embraces tolerance and cross-cultural understanding.

AFS orientation camp

Hello people!

I have been very busy lately so I haven't had time to write anything unfortunately but for now, I am back to tell you about the AFS orientation camp, which actually was a few weeks ago. 

This camp's goal was to show the future exchange students how to act in certain situations, such as having to ask a question to somebody in a foreign language or packing your suitcase before leaving on exchange. 

In the evening, we had a party and the theme was "loosen the beast in you!" so we all dressed up in funny (and cute) animal costumes. 

In short, the camp was a lot of fun, as always!
