Sunny weekend

It was a lovely weekend here in Tampere.! I spent quality time with my friends and the sun.

On saturday, I helped my host mother decorate the cake for AFS's 100th birthday party. I must say, the roses I made out of marzipan were quite nice... I also made a snowman but it didn't survive...

At the party, Azusa and Kanako gave a presentation about Japan, because it didn't work...

After the party, I went for a walk with Azusa in the city...

In the evening I went to a concert in Tuomio Kirkko with my host brother Oskari and host mother. A boys only choir performed Christian music in Latin.

Yesterday, meaning sunday, I was again in Tampere, but this time with my friend Heli. We went all over the city taking pictures for a project for our German class. I can't show you the pictures because I don't want to spoil the surprise before our project will be finished and published...

Easter weekend

Last weekend was Easter weekend. I was surprised by its importance. In Belgium, my home country, I feel like its mainly celebrated by families with little kids with egg hunts. Here, I had a long weekend which I spent with my host families.

On Friday, my host brothers and host sister, and also some friends. It was delicious! Especially desert! There was a mämmi cake (traditional Finnish desert, typical for Easter), a cheese cake and a chocolate cake, that I made.

The next day, I went to my host family's summer cottage with them. It was absolutely beautiful! The place is so quiet, the only I could hear were people cutting down trees. When we arrived, I was so amazed, I took some pictures and then just when to sit in a chair and read and just enjoy the peace and quiet. I loved it!!

On Sunday, I went to see my first host family. I stayed there the night also. It was nice to spend some time with them. I helped the parents getting the garden ready for spring and summer, I played with the dog, and in the evening I watched a James Bond movie with Milla, my host sister.
In brief, it was a wonderful Easter. I hope it was the same for you!

Pietarsaari

Last week from Wednesday to Friday, I went to Pietarsaari (Western Finland, about 100km North from Vaasa) on a short exchange, other exchange students came too. I stayed with a Swedish speaking family, which was very nice and interesting.
On Thursday and Friday, I went to school with the other exchange students also. It was a Finnish speaking school in the same building as the Swedish school. Thursday, I joined a history class, an English class, a French class, and a Swedish class. I understood next to nothing in history and in Swedish class but I very much enjoyed English and French.

Also on Thursday, I went to meet the other exchange students and their host families at a place where they make tonttus (Christmas elves)

The next day, I went to Finnish, biology, religion and art class. After school, I visited pietarsaari with my friends.

Saturday, we all went to Kokkola (a bigger city about 40km away), walked around, ate and walked around some more.

Sunday, to end the short exchange in style, my host mother and one of her daughters took my friend Kanako and I to their summer house.
